Uploading files

For stores not on Shopify: what to export, what leaves your browser, and how to update your data.

What leaves your browser

This page is for stores not on Shopify. Your browser reads each file on your computer. For customers and orders, it keeps only counts by postal area, and that's all it sends:

CountryPostal areaCustomersOrders
US921212340
CAM5V96121
GBN174452
  • A US area is the first 3 digits of the ZIP code: 921 is around San Diego. A Canadian area is the first 3 characters of the postal code, like M5V. A UK area is the postcode district, like N17.
  • Names, emails, street addresses and full postal codes stay on your computer.
  • Walkoff checks again when the counts arrive, and refuses anything finer than an area.

Product files hold product details only: titles, types, tags, short descriptions, prices, colorways, SKUs and photo links. No customer data.

Which files

FileStepWhat it gives Walkoff
Shopify order export1Customers by area, and what each area buys. The best file.
Shopify customer export1Customers by area.
Klaviyo profile export1Customers by area. Include Zip Code and Country in the export.
Spreadsheet of counts1postal_code, country (US, CA or GB) and customers columns. Revenue is optional.
Shopify product export2Your products and every colorway, with SKUs and photos.
Product spreadsheet2title, product type and tags columns.

Step 1 is customers or orders, for your fan map. Step 2 is products, for picks in each team's colors. The upload page tells you if a file is in the wrong step.

How to export

The same guides are on your upload page.

Shopify: orders (best)

Gives us customers and what they buy, so your map can name products.

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Orders.
  2. Click Export.
  3. Choose a date range. The last 12 months is plenty.
  4. Pick Plain CSV file, then Export orders.
  5. Shopify downloads the file, or emails it for big stores. Drop it in step 1.
Shopify: customers
  1. In Shopify admin, go to Customers.
  2. Click Export, then choose All customers.
  3. Pick CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.
  4. Click Export customers and drop the file in step 1.
Shopify: products
  1. In Shopify admin, go to Products.
  2. Click Export, then choose All products.
  3. Pick CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.
  4. Click Export products and drop the file in step 2.
Klaviyo: profiles
  1. In Klaviyo, open Audience, then Lists & segments.
  2. Open the list or segment you market to, for example everyone who has bought.
  3. Use the Manage menu to export it to CSV.
  4. Include Zip Code and Country in the export, then start it.
  5. Klaviyo emails a download link. Drop the file in step 1.
Any other platform
  1. Make a spreadsheet with one row per postal code.
  2. Columns: postal_code, country (US, CA or GB) and customers. Revenue is optional.
  3. Save it as CSV and drop it in step 1.

For products, a spreadsheet with title, product type and tags columns works in step 2.

Products and colorways

Walkoff reads every colorway from your product export: the color option of your variants, with their SKUs and photos. That's how a win features your own products in the team's colors, with no logo or license.

Common color names like “Azure Heather” or “Navy/Gold” get their colors right away. Names Walkoff can't read yet, like “Dune” or “Cove”, get named when Claude reads your catalog, a few minutes after you upload it.

You don't need team gear. If you do make products for a team, Claude finds them, and they're featured first.

Updating your data

  • Customers or orders. Each upload replaces your counts, and your map is made again. An orders export also replaces what each area buys.
  • Products. Each upload adds new products and updates the ones you've uploaded before. Nothing is removed. Claude's tags are kept, and it reads new products, and ones whose title or description changed, within minutes.

Upload again whenever your customers or catalog change. Lost the link? It's in your welcome email, and your Walkoff contact can send it again.

Try the demo

Want to see it first? The demo opens on a sample brand's map, Sample Athleisure Co., with no file needed. It can also read your own file in your browser and show your map. Nothing is uploaded.

The sample map is also on Your fan map.
